Round Rock’s Paint A Pet Is Looking for a Few Good Dogs, Cats—or Whatever You Want to Paint

Round Rock’s annual community art project is inviting local artists to turn their favorite pets into works of art, with submissions due September 15.

Your Pet Does Not Have to Sit Still for This One

Anyone who has tried to get a dog, cat or particularly opinionated bird to pose for a picture knows why painting from a photograph has certain advantages.

Round Rock Public Library’s annual Paint A Pet project is back, inviting residents to create colorful artwork featuring their pet—or simply a favorite animal—and submit it for the community exhibit.

Artwork submissions are being accepted through Sept. 15, 2026.

The resulting exhibit is already underway at the library and continues through Oct. 5.

It Doesn't Have to Be a Dog or Cat

Despite the name, Paint A Pet isn't limited to the animals currently shedding on your furniture.

The library invites artwork depicting a pet or favorite animal, opening the project to considerably more creative possibilities.

Previous promotional material for the project has featured everything from dogs and birds to fish, turtles and wildlife.

The point isn't producing gallery-perfect realism. It is creating something colorful and joining a community art project.

Why This Is a Nice Little Round Rock Tradition

Not every local activity needs a stage, a ticket or a parking strategy worthy of military planning.

Paint A Pet gives residents an easy way to participate in something creative while turning the library into a temporary community gallery.

It is also one of those activities that works across generations. Kids can participate, adults can participate, experienced artists can participate—and people who haven't touched a paintbrush since school can decide this is the year.

And if the portrait makes your Labrador look suspiciously like a llama, call it artistic interpretation and move along.
