From Brushy to Round Rock: When the Mail Caught Up

How a post office helped lock in the town’s name

In 1851, the Brushy Creek Post Office began operations near the creek crossing.

A few years later, postal officials realized there was already another Texas town called Brushy, leading to confusion.

In 1854, the post office was renamed Round Rock, officially tying the community to that distinctive boulder in the creek.

That small bureaucratic change mattered.

Once the post office adopted the name, it spread to maps, letters, business signs, and eventually city charters.

Identity often becomes "official" in quiet ways—through paperwork and mail routes, not grand ceremonies.

Branding sometimes happens at the most boring desk in the room.

The forms you fill out can define your public identity for generations.

For Round Rock entrepreneurs, this is a nudge to:

• claim your domain,

• lock in your Google Business profile,

• and stay consistent with your name, tagline, and visuals.

In recent developments, the city has been bustling with activity.

Tonight, November 15, 2025, the Lakeview Pavilion & Stage at Old Settlers Park celebrated its grand opening with a concert by acclaimed soul artist Allen Stone.

This event marks a significant milestone, introducing a new venue designed to be a cultural cornerstone for Round Rock.

Additionally, the Almost Everything Pop Up Market continues to thrive, featuring local makers, artisans, and small businesses.

These events highlight the community's commitment to fostering a vibrant small-town identity while embracing growth and innovation.

For local entrepreneurs, these developments serve as a reminder to establish and maintain a consistent brand presence.

Just as the post office's name change solidified Round Rock's identity in the 1850s, today's businesses can shape their legacy through thoughtful branding and community engagement.

By participating in local events and utilizing available resources, businesses can ensure they remain an integral part of Round Rock's evolving story.
