In 1878, Sam Bass rode into Round Rock, etching his name into local legend.
After a series of train robberies, Bass planned another heist but was ambushed near Old Town by Texas Rangers and local lawmen.
A gunfight ensued; Bass was mortally wounded and died the next day.
Round Rock didn't choose this story, but it embraced it.
Today, you'll find Sam Bass Road, reenactments, and local lore that mix fact, fiction, and a dash of tall-tale seasoning.
